2018 Karapiro Christmas Regatta

The Christmas Regatta is a three day regatta with the first day's racing starting at around 9:30am on the Friday. The Friday program consists of heats for age group races only, with Saturday races being heats for Club athletes, the remaining age group races on the program and Finals for some of the first events raced on Friday. Sunday racing consists of finals for all remaining events. This year the program has been re-written with more age group events moved to the Friday and more finals being run on the Saturday. By doing this, the Sunday program will be somewhat shorter, allowing those that travel to oportunity to leave earlier. The order of events has also been changed a little to allow a few more clubs to leave early by placing the more popular events earlier in the Sunday program.

Friday Events

The Friday race program consists only of age group events that are aimed at school based rowing programs as most students have finished school for the year by this time. The event numbers are not consecutive, so coaches must be aware of situations such as where it would appear that event 11 and 15 would normally have three events between them, on this day they are adjacent events - on finals day, this could be the case.

Saturday Events

The Saturday race program consists of a mixture of age group races and races aimed at club based rowing programs. Coaches should study the list of events for Saturday carefully as they are run out of order for the first half of the day. This is done to ensure that time is inserted between club events in the interests of fairness to athletes. The first of the finals will be run for the age group events and they will be run in sequence as they would have been on the Sunday

Sunday Finals

The Sunday race program consists of Finals for all events still requiring finals raced over the previous two days. The finals will be raced in event number order.

Some notes on the program design

Please take notice of the following as these principles have been used in the design of the program and not observing them could mean that crews and/or athletes could end up with race clashes that will not be taken into account when the daysheet is released.

  • The Age Group events have been changed to match the Maadi Cup program
  • The program has been writte so that you can either compete in Sweep of Sculling events.
  • The program has been written so that athletes can either opt for Age Group events or RNZ Ability Grades.
  • The program has been written on the basis that athletes will only be entered in one Age Group or ability grade.
  • This year there will be NO seeding heats rowed for events that are straight finals due to entry numbers.

Entry Limits

Because of the size of the regatta, it has been neccessary to put a number of limits on entries to assist in the control of the current size and future growth of the regatta.

There is an entry limit per athlete of three event entries. This may be extended once the supplementary entries open.

There are entry limits on small boat entries as follows:

Whilst Karapiro Rowing realise that the simple solution for a lot of schools would be to enter as Schools where they have entered as Clubs in the past, should this happen and increase the number of entries, then the entry limits will be reduced to one entry per Club / School.
